High Definition Hair Products FAQ: Answers to Wig Questions and Hair Questions
Are those really wigs in the photos?
They really are wigs believe it or not, the majority of which are High Definition Wigs. Only the before photos with the name and occupation of the client, along with the natural state of their hair, are photos without wigs.
What's the difference between a Lace Wig and a High Definition Wig?
This is a good question. There are several significant differences but what it all basically comes down to is this: Whenever a lace wig parts, you just see netting or lace that in some cases is dyed to match the color of the hair. Whereas whenever a High Definition Wig parts, whether you part it or it parts on its own, people actually think they are seeing your scalp, when in fact they are seeing the base of the wig.
Due to non- disclosure clauses, that is all we can share. Just know that a High Definition Wig gives you the versatility to do whatever someone with naturally long hair can do without the worry of anything appearing or looking unnatural. And with proper care, they can also last for a very long time. We have some in our rental stock over 15 years old.
Will they work for someone with alopecia?
Actually, approximately 30% of our clients have some form of alopecia or medical related hair loss. Our high definition systems blend into the face so realistically that someone can literally be inches from your face without being able to detect the system at all. They also create gorgeous new hairlines, drastically improving a client's overall appearance.
How do the wigs stay on?
Our wigs are usually pinned on with regular hair pins. We do not advocate or encourage the use of adhesive. The only time adhesive is used is if the client has absolutely no hairline to pin into or they are bald, putting no hair follicles at risk. While we may sew the hair systems in, we do not sew wigs on a client's heads.
Do I have to shave my hairline?
We've heard of and seen all types of horror stories where people glue the wig or hair systems to their heads, ripping out their hair every time the wig or hair system is removed. Not only are they ripping out hair, they're also ripping out the hair follicles, thus making the problem worse.
We've even heard of people shaving their hairlines to glue wigs or hair systems to their head, which we consider outrageous. We will NEVER shave a client's hairline. Our #1 goal with our clients is to get them to the point where they no longer need any hair replacement product whatsoever within 2-3 years. If they wish to continue wearing our products after then, that's totally up to them. But the point is they don't have to.
Can I order online?
To safeguard product quality and reputation, High Definition Hair ® does not sell custom wigs or hair systems online. Prospective clients must come into our studio for proper consultation, measurements and molding. We do sell some wigs and other products thru our online store.
WARNING: If you've seen other websites promising custom 100% lace wigs and you are not seen in person for a mold of your head, measurements and photos, BUYER BEWARE. Lace Wigs only fit or hug the face properly when seen in person for molding and measurements by a professional wig builder. It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, for someone to build one of these wigs to properly follow and cover someone's hairline with that person sight unseen. Perhaps wigs from these websites look great at a distance, but not close up. For best results, measurements and molding should always be done in person by a professional wig builder, though some stylists are adept at tweaking an online order to look fairly reasonable.
How long will I have to wait for my order?
Depending on order volume and what is ordered specifically, construction time can vary anywhere from 6-12 weeks. Clients do have the option of paying a rush order fee to receive orders between 4-6 weeks.
Do your wigs come with any kind of warranty?
Our wigs come with a 6-Month Limited Warranty. This warranty covers the wig base only as we have no control over the quality of care a client gives to the hair once the wig leaves our studio. For instance, we cannot force clients to keep the hair clean, not to chemically process it or basically do anything damaging. We do guarantee that the base will not fray or unravel for a period of 6 months. If it does, we'll fix it free of charge within that period.
How long will my wig last?
Our wigs are built to last from 2-5 years with daily wear. Clients will need to see us once, possibly twice per year to have hair added. Some wigs in our rental stock are over 15 years old. However, if clients don't take care of the wig or hair system, they won't last just like anything else.
Will the hair fall out or shed?
We seal the knots and/or double knot all the hair in all our systems. So if they shed, it is due to breakage from a lack of maintenance or damage to the hair itself. If worn daily, our wigs should undergo proper maintenance at least once per week. This involves washing, deep conditioning and giving the hair a hot-oil treatment weekly.
Do I have to sign up for a maintenance plan?
No you don't. Clients are more than welcome to maintain their own wigs. In fact, we encourage it. Your wig comes with a Wear and Care Guide that includes instructions on how to properly maintenance your wig yourself at home. Clients do have the option to bring their wigs in regularly for maintenance.
Does High Definition Hair ® you have a return policy?
Due to recent abuse of our previous return policy, we no longer offer refunds on custom orders. Constructing a wig can take anywhere from 60 to 350 hours depending on type, and very expensive hair and base materials are used. This is too much time, effort and money for individuals to purchase our wigs only for temporary use. Selling a restocked wig can also be difficult. So no refunds on custom orders. Credits, Exchanges or Revisions only. Orders must be returned in the original condition within 7 DAYS of receipt. For the same reasons, cancelled orders will also be subject to a 30% restocking fee. No refunds on extensions or hair accessories.
How often would I have to remove my wig and wash my own hair?
You can remove your wig and wash your hair as often as you wish. We recommend that clients do this at least once per week as their scalp sweats underneath the wig and if not washed regularly, can develop a very unpleasant odor, not to mention it's just healthier for scalp and hair growth.
